HENRY ALLEN RISPIN & 1920S CAPITOLA
“The Rispin residence, even in embryo, looks like a castle in Spain. It stretches itself along the bluff for 150 feet or more, and will be three stories in height when it gets its growth.” --Santa Cruz Evening News, January 19, 1920
The Rispin Mansion was designed by architect George McCrea in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. Cost estimates for construction of the five-bedroom, 9,000-square-foot home have ranged from $50,000 to $250,000. These plans are from the application for placement of the Rispin Mansion on the National Register of Historic Places. They are not to exact scale, but show the floor plan for each story. The main living areas were on the third story (ground floor) and fourth story. The second story included a garage, storage, and servant's quarters. The small first story is labeled as basement and mechanical. Note that the second, third, and fourth storys had rooms on two levels.
